Adhesives
Adhesives

Thermally conductive adhesive systems. There are both room temperature vulcanizing one-part or two-part systems and accelerated heat curing systems. The thermal gradient is minimised through the excellent thermal contact due to their high bonding properties as well as high thermal conductivities. At the same time using screws, springs, clips as mechanic fasteners, becomes superfluous and the system remains at zero pressure. Mechanic tolerances can be compensated at no pressure. Above all they are used in applications having little space only and where their permitted weight is very limited. Materials with different expansion coefficients can easily be bonded, thus giving a reliable thermal link.

FEATURES AND AVAILABILITY:

  • Very low thermal resistances through excellent thermal contacts
  • Reliable strong adherence on uneven or hardly machineable surfaces
  • Excellent compensation of mechanic tolerances
  • No need of mechanic fasteners e.g. screws, springs, clips
  • Silicone or Polyurethan
  • One or two-part systems
  • RTV or heat curing
  • Addition or condensation curing (moisture)
  • Dispensable from cartridges or pails
PSA Insulating Tape
PSA Insulating Tape

Thermally conductive PSA films are suitable for simple, effective and cost-effective thermal bonding of heat sinks to electrically insulated semiconductor components. They are mainly used in applications where space is limited and low weight is important. The adhesive films reduce thermal contact resistance to a minimum. Convex and concave unevenness of the contact surfaces and tolerances can be compensated very well. Materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion can be securely joined and thermally bonded well. Adhesive build-up and bonding technology eliminates the need for screws and staples as mechanical components.

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES:

  • Reliable adhesive strength on uneven or difficult-to-treat surfaces
  • Mechanical fastening by screws, staples or rivets becomes unnecessary
  • Good pre-applicability
  • No migration compared to thermal paste
  • No mixing of components and curing processes as with liquid adhesives

Silicone Caps
Silicone Caps

Thermally conductive caps and tubes made of silicone achieve an excellent thermal transfer between electronic packages and heat sinks while realizing a dielectric all-around insulation. Due to all around insulation dielectric creeping distances can be minimized. Being based on silicone, a long-term stability is ensured. Together with the property both to comply with the contact surfaces and to be compressible under pressure, the total thermal resistance is minimized.

FEATURES AND AVAILABILITY:

  • Minimized dielectric creeping distances due to all around insulation
  • High mechanic stability

Graphite Foils
Graphite Foils

Graphite foils consist of more than 98% pure natural graphite or are processed of synthetic pyrolytic graphite. Due to their flake-like shape they show anisotropic thermal conductivities in-plane (x-y-plane) and vertically (z-direction). Heat is then transferred away from hot spots in a directed way and spread within the interface material. Their softness allows for a very good compliance to the contact surfaces, thus minimizing the thermal contact resistance. Their low density compared to copper or aluminum makes them ideal for applications where low weight is required. The very high temperature resistance allows for the use in extreme hot environments. Due to their high flexibility pyrolytic graphite foils can be folded up to 180 ° without break.

FEATURES AND AVAILABILITY:

  • Thermal conductivities up to 1,950 W/mK in-plane and 25 W/mK in through z-direction

SARCON in general
SARCON in general

More power and light weight. In the past, these two characteristics in electronics were mutually exclusive. Now, micro-electronics are just that, and in addition, need thermal management components to further complement these objectives.

SARCON® is an advanced silicone rubber with high thermal conductivity and superior flame-retardancy. By combining the inherent silicone rubber properties of heat resistance, electrical insulation and long-term aging into one compound, this universally applicable material can be made in an unlimited number of thermal management configurations.
