Industrial electric heating

Industrial electric heating – from need to solution

Industrial electric heating is not only about adding heat. It is about selecting the right solution for the specific process, so that temperature, output, control, and operational reliability work together.

At Newtronic, we view industrial electric heating as a complete solution. That is why we advise on heating elements, heat tracing, electric boilers, automation, sensors, control, and documentation. The goal is a solution that operates reliably in practice and fits the customer’s process from the outset.

Electric heating solutions for industrial processes

Industrial electric heating is used when air, liquids, gases, pipes, vessels, or process equipment need to be heated, protected against freezing, or precisely temperature-controlled.

At Newtronic, we size and deliver customised solutions where heating, control, documentation, and operational reliability are considered together from the start.

What these solutions have in common is that they should rarely be selected as standalone components. A heating solution must match the medium, temperature, flow, pressure, installation environment, and the requirements for control and documentation. That is why we also often deliver complete system solutions.

We help you select the right solution based on process requirements, temperature, medium, required output, environment, safety, and integration requirements.

Electric heating, heat tracing, electric boilers, and automation

Electric heating can be used directly for heating in process plants. This may, for example, be with flanged immersion heaters, circulation heaters, duct heaters, heating mats, or cartridge heaters. Here, it is crucial to select the correct output, materials, and watt density so that the heating element suits both the medium and the operating conditions.

Heat tracing is used when pipes, tanks, valves, or technical installations need freeze protection or to be maintained at a specific temperature. The solution is sized based on, among other things, pipe dimensions, insulation, ambient temperature, desired temperature, and installation conditions. In process plants, correctly designed heat tracing can be crucial to avoid frost damage, unwanted cooling, or unstable operation.

Electric boilers are relevant when companies want electric production of hot water, process heating, or steam. They can be used as a primary heat source, backup, peak load, or as part of electrifying existing heating processes. An electric boiler solution can be combined with a heat exchanger, buffer tank, pumps, control, and integration into the customer’s energy system.

Automation ties the solution together. Temperature sensors, power controllers, control panels, controllers, and PLC solutions ensure that heat is regulated precisely and safely. This is especially important at higher outputs, high temperatures, or when integrating with a supervisory control system and SCADA.

Electrification and energy efficiency with electric process heating

Electric process heating makes it possible to replace or supplement fossil heat sources in a range of industrial processes. Electric heating elements and electric boilers can be controlled precisely and quickly, making it possible to match heat production more closely to current process demand.

The specific energy and operating economics depend, among other things, on temperature requirements, operating hours, existing energy source, electricity price, and the plant’s control capabilities. Therefore, we view electrification as a technical and financial assessment of the overall process rather than simply replacing one heat source with another.

Solutions for all industries

Industrial electric heating is used across many industries, but needs vary from one sector to another. In the food and agro industry, it is often about stable process heating, hygiene, easy-to-clean solutions, and reliable temperature control. In pharma and life science, documentation, precision, and process control are typically key requirements.

In the chemical and process industries, there may be specific requirements for materials, media, temperatures, pressures, and ATEX-related conditions. In data centres, electric heating and heat tracing are used, among other things, for freeze protection, condensation control, and safeguarding technical installations where uptime is critical. In energy, utilities, biogas and waste-to-energy, electric heating solutions can be part of process heating, backup, peak load, and temperature maintenance.

We also deliver solutions for OEMs and machine builders, where the electric heating must be integrated directly into machines or process equipment. Here, space constraints, installation, and delivery reliability are often decisive. For consulting engineers and EPC companies, we contribute technical input, sizing, and documentation early in the project.

Regardless of industry, the goal is the same: an electric heating solution that fits the process and is safe and stable in operation.

From technical need to finished solution

When we advise on industrial electric heating, we base our work on the customer’s process data. This provides the best basis for selecting the right solution the first time.

We help clarify required output, temperature requirements, medium, flow, pressure, material selection, control needs, and documentation requirements. In this way, the heating element, heat tracing, electric boiler, and automation can be sized as one complete solution.
